Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo: 1204 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores, AL 36542 The zoo is tucked away just blocks from the beach and is home to more than 290 animals. Lions, tigers, bears, monkeys and macaws are just some of the creatures that inhabit this Gulf Coast oasis. There’s also a petting zoo, reptile house, aviary and daily animal shows in the summer.

 

Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island, Dauphin Island The partnership with National Audubon, the Friends of the Sanctuary, and others, has produced an ideal situation protecting the needs of wildlife and the interest of the general public. In the last few years alone, a 1000-foot handicap access boardwalk from the parking lot to “Gaillard Lake” has been constructed along with a beautiful lake pier.

 

Biophilia Nature Center’s Butterfly Garden: 12695 C.R. 95, Elberta, Alabama 36530 Call ahead to schedule your visit: everything is by appointment. Biologist-guided tours can be arranged for school groups, garden clubs, families, etc… There’s no charge to shop for plants or books, or to do a bit of research in the Biophilia reference library, just be sure to make an appointment.

The Moble Zoo (HQH Western World Zoo): 15161 Ward Road, Wilmer, Alabama 36587 You can see wildlife from all over the world and learn about them. Tour our main building exhibits, tropical birds, reptiles, exit the building to see two species of Black Bear, Tortoises, Leopards, Tigers, Lions, and Serval Cats. The journey passes an open range of non-flying birds, two species of Deer, and Antelope, Bison, long hair cattle, Giant Horses, Minature Donkeys, Wild Hogs, Alligators, many different primates including Chimpanzee and much more.
